West Kootenay EcoSociety's Community Engagement program supports our mission of bringing together local residents to protect the natural environment while building just, equitable, healthy, and livable communities in the West Kootenay region. We organize with our grassroots and community leaders to develop local social, political, and economic solutions to environmental and equity problems

The program hosts special events in communities around the region to increase awareness of critical local issues. We often work with partner organizations to host these events, which might include community meetings, films, guest lectures, conversation cafes, or garden tours. These events help community members understand what's happening, and they also develop leadership and encourage people to become more involved.

At this time, our program is focused on the West Kootenay communities of Rossland, Castlegar and Nelson.

The Community Engagement program also helps people and partners identify opportunities, build capacity, and solve problems. Working with volunteers, partner organizations, and community leaders, we strive to implement projects that:

  1. Preserve wild places and our air and water for current and future generations
  2. Take action to prevent climate change and its impacts
  3. Promote sustainable local economies and food systems

The Community Engagement project is funded by our members, with support from:
